37 Common Roots Flash Cards
Why teach roots?
Teaching the roots of words, or morphology, is a great way of encouraging learners to decode new vocabulary. Even if a word in its entirety is not one a learner has encountered before, a strong knowledge of word roots could help them to construct its meaning independently. Learners who are able to do this consistently are able to understand more vocabulary than they have encountered, improving their literacy and reading comprehension skills overall.
This downloadable literacy resource contains:
- Flashcards of the 37 most common roots in the English language
- Information and research supporting the effectiveness of morphology instruction
- Over 100 example words, constructed with taught roots
This activity pack is perfect both for use in class and at home, helping learners of all abilities improve their understanding of morphology and word composition.
