Stories that shape us: Honouring our communities, inspiring our future

Our Black History Month 2026 resource pack for primary classrooms

This Black History Month, we’re celebrating the people, stories and contributions that have shaped our communities, while encouraging pupils to think about how they can help create a fairer future.

Inspired by this year’s theme, Honouring Our Communities, this resource pack includes activities for primary pupils, helping them explore Black history, equality and the importance of sharing different perspectives.

The pack includes:

  • Reading lists: books and poetry by Black authors, celebrating diverse voices, experiences and stories
  • Classroom activities: age-appropriate tasks exploring Black History Month, equality, representation and community
  • Key vocabulary: opportunities to explore and use key words to express ideas and deepen understanding
